Drug Uses
Ortho Tri-Cyclen contains a combination of estrogen and progestin hormones, which is used for preventing pregnancy. It may also be used for regulation of the menstrual cycle, for treatment of symptoms of menopause, or healing of other situations as recommended by your doctor.
How Taken
Ortho Tri-Cyclen comes in tablets to take by mouth. Then take one tablet a day, the time interval between tablets should not be more than 24 hours. It is advised to take the pills at the same time daily (e.g. before bed, with food intake, or first thing in the morning). If you take your pills at night, this can reduce nausea or headache that you can experience while taking birth control tablets. Avoid missing drugs or starting the pack late. The more tablets are missed the higher the risk to get pregnant. You may have spotting, light bleeding or you may feel sick to your stomach during the first 13 packs of tablets. You should never stop taking pills if you feel sick. This side effect usually goes away. If it persists for long, you should call your doctor. If you find it difficult remembering to take the pill at the right time, you should discuss with your doctor the use of another birth control method.
More Information
Before Ortho Tri-Cyclen is prescribed, you will have to be examined by your doctor. Tell your physician your medical history. You should be re-examined at least once a year. Do not miss appointments with your healthcare provider, as it is best to determine any side effects at an early stage. This product has to be used only for the purpose it has been prescribed. Ortho Tri-Cyclen does not protect from HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
