Drug Uses
Carafate is used for healing and prevention of ulcers. It can also be used for other situations as suggested by your physician.
How Taken
Take Carafate as advised by your doctor. Use Carafate on an empty stomach at least one hour before or twp hours after a meal. Don't take an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this medicine. It may take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not take Carafate at the same time as other drugs. Use Carafate at least 2 hours after other pills. If you are not sure about the best time to use Carafate, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
More Information
Carafate may cause dizziness. These effects may worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Take Carafate with caution. Don't drive or perform other possibly negative tasks until you know how you respond to this product. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, talk to your physician. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been advised. Don't use less or more or use it more often than advised by your physician.
